Who we are
Scenaristo is made by Davide Mendolia, an independent developer, who is responsible for the data described here. For anything on this page, write to hello@scenaristo.com.
In the app
Your recordings, transcripts and projects
Transcription, editing and export all run on your computer. We never receive your media, your transcripts or your project files, and there is no account to create.
Crash and freeze reports
When the app crashes, freezes, or fails to download a model, it sends a report to Sentry, a crash reporting service, so we can find and fix the cause. A report contains:
- the technical details of the failure: a stack trace, the operation that failed, and how long it had been running;
- the app version, your operating system, and your hardware;
- your computer's name, as your operating system reports it;
- a random ID created the first time the app runs, so we can tell whether a bug affects one install or many. It is not derived from your hardware or anything else about you.
On macOS, a freeze report also includes a snapshot of what each part of the app was doing at that moment. The app also sends a short record when a session starts and ends, which is how we know what share of sessions end in a crash.
Reports are built to leave out your media, transcripts and project contents, but an error message can occasionally contain a file name or folder path. Reports are stored in Sentry's EU region for up to 90 days.
There is no setting to turn crash reporting off yet. You can reset the random ID at any time by deleting the file named install-id in the app's settings folder.
Update checks
Each time it starts, the app asks GitHub whether a newer version exists, and downloads it if there is one. GitHub sees your IP address and which platform the request is for, under GitHub's privacy statement.
Model downloads
Transcription models are downloaded from Hugging Face the first time you use each one. Hugging Face sees your IP address and which model file was requested, under its privacy policy. After that the model is on your disk and transcription works offline.
On this website
Hosting
Cloudflare serves this site. Like any web host it processes your IP address, your browser's details and the page you asked for, to deliver the page and protect the site from abuse.
Analytics and advertising
This site uses Google Analytics, loaded through Cloudflare Zaraz, to record the pages you view and the download buttons you click, with the language of the page and the platform you chose. If you arrive from a link carrying campaign details (the utm_ parameters, or a gclid or fbclid click ID), those are remembered along with the page that referred you and the page you landed on, both for your first visit and your most recent one, so we can tell which campaigns lead to downloads. When you arrive from a Google ad, Google Ads is told that a download followed it.
Google receives this with your IP address and browser details, under Google's privacy policy. To recognise a returning visitor, Google Analytics stores an identifier in a cookie or in your browser's storage.
What this site stores in your browser
Apart from Google Analytics, the site keeps three small values in your browser's local storage: the language you picked, whether you dismissed the language suggestion, and whether your first visit has already been recorded. None of them identify you, and clearing your browser's site data removes them. If you arrive from a campaign link, the campaign name is also kept in session storage until you close the tab.
Downloads, support links and email
The installers are downloaded from this site, served by Cloudflare like any other page, so GitHub, where they are published, does not see your request. Only if that fails are you sent on to the release page on GitHub instead. On Windows, the Microsoft Store button opens Scenaristo's Store listing and tells Microsoft the name of the campaign that brought you, if any, under Microsoft's privacy statement. The Ko-fi and GitHub Sponsors links are run by those services under their own policies. If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can reply.
From July 11 to July 28, 2026, this site collected email addresses for a Windows waitlist. We no longer collect them. The addresses gathered then are still stored, and we will delete yours on request.
What we do not do
We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for anything other than what this page describes.
Why we process it
Crash reports, update checks and hosting exist to keep the app and the site working and secure. Analytics exists to understand which pages and campaigns lead people to download Scenaristo. In both cases the legal basis is our legitimate interest in running and improving the product. Your email is processed to answer it.
Your rights
You can ask us what personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, or stop processing it. Write to hello@scenaristo.com. Crash reports and analytics are not tied to your name or email, so for those it helps to tell us which computer or browser you mean. If you are in the EU, the EEA or the UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes
When what the app or the site sends changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves.
